What is Responsible Tourism ?

Responsible tourism is any form of tourism that can be consumed in a more responsible way. It is about making better places for people to live in and better places for people to visit. It requires that operators, hoteliers, governments, local people and tourists take responsibility, take action to make tourism more sustainable.

Importance
Responsible Tourism

Why is it important ?

If all relevant stakeholders take part into Responsible Tourism, these are the benefits that the world can derive from it :

It minimises negative economic, environmental and social impacts

It generates greater economic benefits for local people and enhances the well-being of host communities, improves working conditions and access to the industry.

It involves local people in decisions that affect their lives

It makes positive contributions to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage, to the maintenance of the world’s diversity

It provides more enjoyable experiences for tourists through more meaningful connections with local people, and a greater understanding of local cultural, social and environmental issues

It provides access for people with disabilities and the disadvantaged

It is culturally sensitive, generates respect between tourists and hosts, and builds local pride and confidence.

Our Advice

Whenever you travel, wherever you travel, remember to respect nature, respect culture, and respect local people.

We made a little list of tips for you. We would be happy if you would use it while traveling in Ningaloo Reef (but not only!)

Don’t feed any animals in the wild and don’t attempt to touch them either, including marine creatures and live coral.

Respect the beach, parks and picnic areas by not leaving any rubbish or food.

Purchase products that aren’t made using endangered plants or animals.

Put sunscreen on 20 to 30 minutes before going into the water. The sunscreen will have time to enter your skin and will not spread out in the water.

Reduce your water and energy consumption whenever possible.

Respect livelihoods of local vendors and artisans by paying a fair price.

Do not disrupt any natural events that could occur during your time at Ningaloo and get informed on what to do if you come across one (turtles nesting, hatchings).

Here is a video about turtle nesting! Enjoy!

4ocean
Partnership

We are happy to have developed a partnership with 4Ocean, an organisation focused in removing trash from  the oceans.

This initiative is funded by selling bracelets made with recyclable materials. Every bracelet purchased funds the removal of half a kilo of trash from the ocean and coastlines. They create a different bracelet every month inspired by animals affected by the pollution of the seas.

In less than 2 years, 4ocean has removed more than 1,9 tons of trash from oceans and coastlines.

We wanted to partner with 4Ocean to raise awareness of the damage trash causes. It is a great way to help clean the ocean and help the animals that live in it to have a better life.

You can learn more on their cause and their bracelets on their website.
